David O’Donnell takes charge of Original Equipment PLT Tires Worldwide
Dr. Boris Mergell is responsible for Research & Development PLT Tires
Karlheinz Evertz heads up Production and Logistics, Commercial Specialty Tires
As the Continental Tire Division continues to pursue its management rotation system, effective October 1, 2016 several members of management have been assigned to new roles. David O’Donnell (42) has taken over the Original Equipment Passenger and Light Truck Tires (PLT) worldwide Business Unit from Karlheinz Evertz (57). O’Donnell, who comes from Ireland, graduated in Mechanical Engineering and has been with Continental for the past 18 years. Most recently he was responsible for Research & Development PLT Tires. Prior to that, O’Donnell held a variety of management roles, not least in the Original Equipment PLT Tires worldwide Business Unit, where he was responsible for regional key account management in The Americas and Europe.

Karlheinz Evertz, who had been in charge of the Original Equipment PLT Tires worldwide Business Unit since 2007, is now responsible for Production and Logistics of Commercial Specialty Tires (CST). In this role he reports directly to the managing director of CST, Enno Straten (43). Evertz too graduated in Mechanical Engineering and can look back on more than 30 years in various management roles, including heading up the PLT Replacement EMEA Business Unit and responsibility for worldwide production of PLT tires.
Dr. Boris Mergell (41) has taken charge of Research & Development PLT Tires and in this role he reports to David O’Donnell. He also joins the Board of Management of the Tire Division. Dr. Mergell has been with Continental for the past 13 years and was most recently responsible for Product Development at the Commercial Vehicle Tires Business Unit. For the five previous years, Mergell, who holds a PhD in Physics, was in charge of Compound & Process Development and Industrialization Tires.
